Gov. Shumlin Signs our Recognition Bill into Law
(s.129)An act relating to recognition of the
Koasek Abenaki of the Koas as a Native American Indian tribe.
Sec. 1. 1 V.S.A. § 855 is added to read:
RECOGNITION OF KOASEK ABENAKI OF THE KOAS
The Koasek Abenaki of the Koas Abenaki Nation has filed an application for tribal recognition with the Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs and has complied with the recognition requirements contained in subdivisions 853(c)(1)–(9) of this title and is hereby recognized by the state of Vermont as a Native American Indian tribe.
Sec. 4. 1 V.S.A. § 853 (a) (3)
“Recognized” or “recognition” means acknowledged as a Native American Indian tribe by the Vermont General Assembly.
Approved by Law and Signed into Law by Gov. Shumlin May 7th, 2012.
