Many people are looking for thier roots today. many genealogy hobbists some totting certificates from taking courses or thinking themselves to be exceptional researchers from thier kitchen tables will offer to help you find those answers you have always been looking for. with the world wide web and a debit card in hand more and more people are claiming to be experts in the genealogy field but that doesn't necessarily make the information they collect to be accurate. you can look for a professional via BCG Directory which is in most libraries and also on the Internet at http://www.bcgcertification.org

You should also know that Indian tribes are land based communities and surnames of those communities come into play when researching native roots which is mainly known with in that region by the tribal communities themselves and usually only within that tribal region.

After genealogists research data is submitted; a tribal council will consider genealogy paperwork, family histories written and oral, surnames and possibly dna results together in an applicant but not just one part of the list is used in determining your application for enrollment; US Census Records, Birth and Death Certificates are usually a disappointment for researchers looking for something that states 'indian" on them. however, it is important to include all those records, family history such as oral stories as well as family bibles, a family tree of all maiden names, places of birth etc in an application.BCG definition of genealogy: Genealogy is the study of families in genetic and historical context.

Within that framework, it is the study of the people who compose a family and the relationships among them. At the individual level, it is biography, because we must reconstruct each individual life in order to separate each person’s identity from that of others bearing the same name. Beyond this, many researchers also find that genealogy is a study of communities because kinship networks have long been the threads that create the fabric of each community’s social life, politics, and economy.**
